Sex Hormone and Arthritis Remedy
Boron is a
trace mineral mostly found in foods of plant origin. It appears
to be essential for plant growth and developement and its
health promoting effects in humans are becoming increasingly
apparent. It is said to prevent osteoporosis in post menopausal
women, increase levels of oestrogen and is beneficial in the
treatment of arthritis.
A study of post menopausal women,
deprived them of boron for 4 months and then gave them 3mg of
boron a day, concluded that apparently it can raise a woman's
natural oestrogen level just as much as does HRT.
It also reduced the excretion of calcium and magnesium, the
main component of bones markedly, and so increased bone mineral
density
Other studies have shown that boron enables the body to make
better use of vitamin D, the nutrient essential to using the
calcium and magnesium to make bones stronger and prevent
osteoporosis.
Boron can be used with other therapies, to alleviate hot
flushes, vaginal dryness and other menopausal symptoms, due to
its stimulation of natural oestrogen.
It also appears to raise DHEA and testosterone levels in
women and so could help a waning libido.
Food sources of boron include cabbage, dandelion, parsley,
apples, dried fruits, grape juice, cherries, avocados and
broccoli.
The suggested intake is of about 3mg to prevent osteoporosis
and more to alleviate menopausal symptoms (about 6-18mg a
day).
